Copilot Body Clock: How Biology Could Drive the Future of Technology

In this DLD Sync session, two of the world’s leading chronobiologists will put their research into perspective with regard to the future of mobility. Elizabeth Klerman (Harvard Medical School) and Till Roenneberg (LMU Munich) will explain what chronobiology is – and why it is vital for all of us to know more about it. They will also give tips on how to avoid common misconceptions and what you should know about restful sleep and sleeping patterns.

This is of particular concern when it comes to new technologies and how they change human behavior, with potentially serious consequences for the body clock. Imagine a camper van that drives you to your destination while you’re taking a nap in the back seat. Or electric air taxis that could bridge the gap between cities and rural areas.

Tomorrow’s world will be full of such exciting developments. To realize their full potential, however, developers need to work hand-in-hand with researchers from the field of biology, as Klerman and Roenneberg will show in their DLD Sync session, moderated by DLD founder Steffi Czerny.

Susan McPherson, Steffi Czerny, DLD Sync
While we all have large networks on social media and business platforms, real connection and long-lasting, meaningful relationships remain rare and exclusive – especially in a business context. In this DLD Sync session, Susan discussed with DLD’s Founder and Connector-in-Chief, Steffi Czerny, what the key elements for forging real relationships are.
Tom Enders, John Micklethwait, Adrian Wooldridge
The Covid crisis has not just highlighted the failures of certain governments; it is accelerating a shift in the balance of power from West to East. Bloomberg Editor-in-Chief John Micklethwait and Adrian Wooldridge, political editor of the Economist and author of its Bagehot column, discuss main aspects of their recently published book The Wake-Up Call: Why the Pandemic Has Exposed the Weakness of the West, and How to Fix It with Tom Enders, President of the German Council of Foreign Relations and former CEO of Airbus.
Ulrike Hoffmann-Burchardi, Ali Ghodsi
Unlike oil, data is an infinite resource. In fact, it comes in such abundance that it is harder to refine than its industrial age counterpart. One of the key challenges for enterprises is to put their data to good use. This means defining, measuring and analyzing the right parameters. It means turning data into a competitive advantage, into smoother and leaner processes, and better products and services – which drive market value just as much as customer satisfaction and, ideally, use fewer limited resources.
Mattias Ljungman, David Helgason
Young companies are the lifeblood of a thriving economy, especially in times of rapid change. In this DLD Sync session, investors Mattias Ljungman (Moonfire) and David Helgason (Nordic Makers) assessed the state of Europe’s technology and startup scene, and explored where the greatest opportunities lie. Drawing from their wealth of experience as investors and entrepreneurs, David and Mattias discussed seed investing, innovation clusters, the secrets of success and more in conversation with moderator Karsten Lemm.

In volatile times, visions are crucial. They enable us to build a better future, they’re a call to action and they drive us to set out to new frontiers. Exploring space is such a vision and Munich is a veritable European innovation ecosystem in this area. We heard from four players in this unique ecosystem – a start-up, an established business leader, a leading technology enabler and a top university – about what it takes to bring the vision of space exploration to a new level.
