High carbon emissions, water pollution and low recycling rates make fashion, in its current form, a dirty business. Thankfully there are many innovative solutions coming out of startups and organizations dedicated to making beautiful clothes in a more sustainable fashion.
In this DLD Circular panel discussion you’ll hear from Katrin Ley, Managing Director of Fashion for Good; Gudrun Messias, Director Sustainability Direction at adidas; Patrik Lundström, CEO of Renewcell; and David Puyuelo, Director of Coleo.
“The average U.S. consumer throws 81.5 pounds of clothes away every year”, moderator Jennifer Schenker notes at the outset of the session. “The number of times garments are worn has decreased by 36% in the last 15 years. The fashion industry is responsible for 2% of global wastewater.”
Given the global impact of the fashion industry, “that’s a challenge that no one organization can solve alone”, Katrin Ley says. That’s why her organization, Fashion for Good, aims to bring together changemakers from established brands and innovative startups.
