DLD Nature Preview: Speakers & Topics

Here’s how tech can turbocharge the fight against biodiversity loss: DLD Nature will be rich in insights, innovation and solutions. See who’s speaking and what’s on the agenda!

The mission to preserve Earth’s biodiversity is just as important as addressing the climate crisis. Our planet is “experiencing its largest loss of life since the dinosaurs”, the United Nations warn: A staggering 25% of plant and animal species are at risk of extinction, and the rate at which global biodiversity continues to decline is increasing – largely due to the destruction of natural habitats through deforestation, pollution or urbanization, but also illegal hunting, overfishing and industrial agriculture.

This is an enormous challenge, but also a unique opportunity to reinvent our current economic system and create business models that resonate with a growing number of customers and will benefit everyone: investors, entrepreneurs, and nature itself.

DLD Nature will bring together experts from science, business, politics and culture to discuss the various paths to achieving this goal. Attendance is complimentary. We just ask you to please fill out an application to join us. This article will give you an overview of what to expect. Please note that, as always, the agenda is a work-in-progress and changes are always possible.

Your Hosts

For DLD Nature, we’ve teamed up with a stellar group of co-hosts who bring a wealth of knowledge to discussing the vital issues we’re facing.

Keynotes

We’re grateful that two leading politicians have agreed to share their thoughts with us: Ursula von der Leyen, President of the EU Commission, and Bavaria’s minister president Markus Söder.

Addressing the Challenge

To fix a problem, you need to understand it first. Renowned scientists will share the latest insights into climate change, species loss and the wealth of natural wonders that we’re about to lose. We’re also discussing the social and cultural dimensions of damaging our planet’s health, with experts from art and philosophy, and we’ll take a close look at the increasing risks to our economy and security which arise from biodiversity loss.

The Business Case for Biodiversity

Respecting other species, and taking care of planet Earth, is not just a moral issue – it’s often good business, too. Both customers and investors increasingly reward companies that promise to protect natural resources.

On both days you’ll get the chance to explore a variety of topics in detail. Join our workshops about sustainable cities, soil restoration, tech solutions for preserving biodiversity and more to get expert insights from speakers and exchange ideas with fellow attendees.

Planet Tech

There’s a slew of new technological solutions to help us understand – and protect – animals and ecosystems better. Satellites, sensors and AI can also improve monitoring and compliance. We’ll explore some of the latest, most promising projects and developments.

Healing & Recovery

How do you repair a broken system? There are many ways, actually: We’ll highlight a range of approaches that will be crucial to giving nature a chance to recover – from regenerative agriculture and small farming to biodiverse cities, green architecture and shifting to a circular economy.
