In turbulent, fast-moving times, philosophy must become young again – not by repeating ancient thought, but by developing a new “meteorology of thinking” capable of reading the digital storms reshaping our world.
This is the central argument that legendary German filmmaker, author, and philosopher Alexander Kluge makes in his DLD26 conversation with Hans Ulrich Obrist, Artistic Director of the Serpentine Galleries in London.
While reality accelerates the progress of ideas remains slow, Kluge argues. This gap between the speed of events and the pace of thought is precisely what makes philosophy urgent again, he says.
AI can act as an unexpected collaborator in this effort. “The misconceptions of AI are even better than some of our [human] insights”, Kluge notes – stressing that human intelligence remains distinct, rooted in the body, senses, and lived experience.
While much of the conversation is in German, the video features English subtitles.
