AI is redefining the art of DJing, making it more accessible, innovative, and human-centered than ever before, as you’ll hear in this lively DLD Future Hub session. Moderated by Lutz Leichsenring (VibeLab), the panel discussion, brings together international club culture insiders Angelo Tun (DJ Angelo), Tereza, Haseeb Iqbal, and Karim Morsy, CEO of Algoriddim.
Tools like Algoriddim’s Neural Mix technology empower DJs to isolate and remix drums, vocals, and instruments in real time, turning existing songs into entirely new compositions, Morsy explains in his opening remarks. “We’re removing the friction and the barrier for basically anyone to go home, download the app on their smartphone, and become DJs using their favorite music”, he says.
DJ Angelo, a world DJ champion and head of brand at Algoriddim, demonstrates how AI transforms DJing. Using only an iPhone and Algoriddim’s software, he seamlessly remixes songs on the fly, blending instruments and vocals from multiple tracks with precision.
Haseeb Iqbal, a DJ, radio host, and journalist, emphasizes the human element in music and nightlife. All arts are “underpinned by an emotion” which cannot be replaced by AI, he argues. “I think technology can be utilized to create certain environments, but I absolutely love the time and energy that goes into going into record shops, spending time, speaking to the owner about records, telling the stories of what I’m into.”
Tereza, a DJ and curator, also expresses concern about where the tool ends being a mere tool – and where it begins to “take over”, particularly regarding skills like beat-matching, which she found enjoyable to learn.
