How big is the transformative potential of automated decision-making technologies in industrial logistics and beyond? Inga Grieger of BMW iVentures and Andreas Kyrtatos, CEO of Embotech, discuss the current state of the industry and promising applications of this cutting-edge technology.
Kyrtatos introduces Embotech’s groundbreaking automation solutions which address key challenges like labor shortages, efficiency, and sustainability.
One example is a smart infrastructure solution deployed at three BMW factories. “We’re driving, at the moment, 1,000 cars a day autonomously”, Kyrtatos says.
“We have a digital model of the environment and sensors in the infrastructure”, he adds, explaining how the system moves vehicles through the production plant and into logistics centers without human intervention. “Everybody talks about public road autonomous driving”, Kyrtatos says. “But this is actually happening. This is already in the factory.”
At the port of Rotterdam, Embotech has deployed an automated terminal tractor solution. These vehicles operate in mixed-traffic environments with trucks, cranes, and pedestrians, autonomously transporting containers between ships and railways. “The whole port industry is ripe for automation”, Kyrtatos says. “This is a lighthouse project in the industry.”
