With the continent owning half of the patents for the next-generation 5G telecommunications technology, as well as launching a new initiative in computer programming and smart antennas, Thierry Breton sees a bright future ahead.
To guarantee this success, he emphasized, “We need a clear vision of what we want to do and how we want to behave with our data.” This makes it essential to establish which laws and values apply to data processes in Europe. Breton proposed the creation of a checklist for countries seeking to enter a digital partnership with Europe in order to assure digital safety and compliance with regulations. “We have the skills, we have the will and the ambition, and we understand what we are talking about”, he concluded his speech.
