What does authenticity mean when AI can replicate anything perfectly? In their equally entertaining and inspiring DLD26 conversation, Grammy winner FKA twigs and Mumi Haiati, founder of Reference Studios, explore how real human connection can survive in an environment of speed, copying, and content churn.
For FKA twigs, authenticity isn’t a strategy – it’s simply the result of being herself. “I know I’m being authentic when I’m not thinking about it”, she explains. “It’s not something that I really think about when I write a song or when I’m making a video.”
The multi-talented artist also praises the Internet as an incredible tool for connection and also pushes back against the idea that culture is dying. “I do see so many incredible institutions being shut down”, she says. “But at the same time I see lots of underground raves popping and lots of warehouses and kids creating their own communities and not putting it online.”
