In Ukraine’s agricultural sector, global food security and wartime resilience come together, this DLD26 conversation between Andrii Dykun, Chairman of the Ukrainian Agri Council, and Michael Prinz zu Salm-Salm makes clear.
Despite the ongoing war, Ukrainian farmers demonstrate remarkable endurance, Dykun notes. Agriculture accounts for 20% of the country’s GDP and 65% of its export revenue. “Without our possibility to export food to the global markets, it would be really, really difficult for us to survive”, he says. At the same time, these exports are crucial to provide food for many million people.
Necessity is driving innovation. Dykun describes how Ukrainian engineers and IT specialists are advancing R&D at unprecedented speeds. Still, scaling production under constant threat remains a formidable challenge, one that Ukraine cannot meet alone, he emphasizes.
