In her DLD Circular 23 welcome speech, the mayor of Munich, Katrin Habenschaden, emphasizes the importance of transitioning to a more sustainable economy.
The world faces an urgent challenge from climate change, she notes, and cities will play a key role in finding solutions.
Munich has set an ambitious goal to become fully climate-neutral by 2035 and is pursuing a circular economy approach by recycling and reusing materials, reducing waste, and changing procurement practices.
“To tackle climate change, we have to review all areas of living in terms of sustainability”, Habenschaden says. “And one key aspect is the transformation of our linear economic system into a circular economy.”
