You may have heard that healthy soil is a valuable carbon sink. But did you know that a teaspoon of soil contains more organisms than the entire human population?
The DLD Nature talk of Boston Consulting Group analyst Torsten Kurth underscores the vital role of soil health in addressing environmental challenges and its untapped economic potential.
“Soil science is a really, really complicated science”, Kurth observes. “It is, I would argue, the decathlon of science. You need to be a really good physics chemist, biologist, microbiologist, molecular biologist, data scientist, all in one science.”
To unlock the value hidden beneath the ground, society needs to raise awareness, translate knowledge into practice, de-risk investments, and promote soil-related technologies, the BCG analyst argues.
