Follow along investor Ludwig Ensthaler of 468 Capital analyzes the current state of AI in 2023. In his presentation, he illustrates the “Cambrian explosion” in the field of generative AI and examines future trends.
Three factors have led to the recent progress of AI, Ensthaler notes – algorithms, computing power and data.
“We’ve been thinking about AI for a long, long time at 468, investing actively in it”, he says. “And, you know, our heads are spinning. I think everyone’s heads are spinning.”
Ensthaler makes clear that generative AI is not hype. Rather, this powerful technology should be seen as a new platform, he argues, because it creates huge business opportunities and reduces the cost of content generation – just like the Internet reduced the cost of distribution and the cloud reduced the cost of storage.
“The big question”, Ensthaler says, is “who will capture the value, who’s going to make money from this? The value to the consumer, we think is perfectly obvious. What’s not obvious is who’s going to make money from this.”
