This DLD Nature panel discussion explores ways for humans to reconnect with nature and foster solidarity with other species. It’s also a wonderful example of diversity, as you’ll get to hear from three experts in different fields of research.
Mara-Daria Cojocaru, a leading philosopher, explains how children instinctively relate to nature – but then tend to lose this connection as their grow up. “Children take natural joy in other beings, human or not, animal or not”, Cojocaru observes, advocating for solidarity with animals.
Katrin Vohland, director of the Vienna Natural History Museum, discussed how museums can build bridges between science and society to tackle biodiversity loss – for example through citizen science projects that encourage observing nature and collecting data for biodiversity reporting.
Jane Lawton of the Earth Species Project discusses using artificial intelligence to decode animal communication and understand their perspectives, potentially informing ideas like rights for nature. For details please take a look at our interview with her.
