How did AI systems become so powerful, so quickly – and what can we expect to see next? LMU professor Björn Ommer starts the session with a presentation about the basics of generative AI that illustrates how the technology works and why it has created so much excitement.
“Generative AI is a mighty enabling technology, an enabler of our future technological progress”, Ommer says.
One reason is AI’s versatility – it can be used for pretty much any application. You can also see it as a new way of computing, which moves from programming to prompting.
“Say you’re a designer”, Ommer explains. “Rather than designing it yourself, you can now tell a computer what you actually want to see. Or you’re an architect and you describe what you want to see.”
Ommer also addresses issues of scalability, resource usage and open access. His presentation is followed by a Q&A session with investor Florian Leibert of 468 Capital.
