Emerging markets like India, Nigeria and other countries across Africa offer exciting opportunities for investors, as you’ll hear in this insightful DLD24 panel discussion moderated by author and advisor Thomas Crampton.
Investors Lexi Novitske (Norrsken22), Bunmi Akinyemiju (Venture Garden Group) and Dirk van Quaquebeke (BEENEXT) discuss the potential of these markets in light of the many changes happening in these regions, especially in the context of the Internet and technology.
India, for example, has gone “through a remarkable digital transformation that started with the government essentially wanting to increase financial inclusion”, Dirk van Quaquebeke observes. “By now, it’s one of the most financially savvy countries in the world when it comes to digital payment products and protocols.”
Bunmi Akinyemiju recalls building 15 companies over the span of 10 years in his home country of Nigeria. “I think entrepreneurship is really the secret to unlocking economic development”, he says.
Lexi Novitske explains that she moved from the United States to Africa in 2012 because she saw “this incredible opportunity that I thought the rest of the world wasn’t paying attention to”. Her VC fund has by now grown to $200 million.
