If you love chocolate (or coffee) and care about the rainforest, treat yourself to this captivating DLD Circular talk by Frauke Fischer.
A professor at University of Würzburg, Fischer co-founded Perú Puro, an online shop for sustainably sourced chocolate and coffee, to finance regenerative agriculture projects on the eastern slopes of the Andes in Peru.
“The Amazon rainforest, together with the Congo basin, are the two lungs of our Earth”, Fischer explains. “They’re extremely important to protect.”
As a tropical ecologist, Fischer wanted to not just research the endangered ecosystems but actively help protect them.
Together with a colleague she developed a project to establish biodiversity-rich agroforestry systems and provide economic incentives for farmers to participate. The project has restored 140 hectares of degraded land so far.
Watch the video to hear details – and find out how you can help expand the project by eating award-winning chocolate and drinking organic coffee.
