AI will not lead to mass unemployment but rather transform the nature of work, ultimately creating more jobs and prosperity, investor Amiram Appelbaum argues in his compelling DLD Future Hub presentation.
History shows that technological revolutions have always led to a net gain in employment. The Industrial Revolution, for example “created a more productive society”, Appelbaum notes. “More jobs were created, but with a different type of skills.”
With artificial intelligence, Appelbaum expects this trend to continue. While AI “will automate routine tasks”, the technology is more likely to augment humans than replace them, he believes. “I argue that a machine will never replace a doctor.”
The technology also has the potential to improve services that are vital to society. An “AI tutor” could make education more personalized and efficient, for example. In business, AI can “reduce the barrier to entrepreneurship”, Appelbaum notes, “because you can get activities like coding, marketing, bookkeeping” done by smart algorithms.
