Elisabeth Burda-Furtwängler presents the prestigious Aenne Burda Award for Creative Leadership to Grammy-winning artist FKA twigs in a session filled with celebration and inspiration.
The award comes with a proud legacy and celebrates women who refuse to bow to convention. It is named after German magazine publisher Aenne Burda, who became a businesswoman in the 1950s, an era when women “had to ask for permission by their husbands to open a bank account or do their driver’s license”, as her granddaughter Elisabeth notes.
Burda-Furtwängler highlights FKA twigs’s testimony before the US Senate on protecting artists’ intellectual property and shielding young people from AI and screen addiction. Still, “you don’t reject the technology and artificial intelligence at all”, Burda-Furtwängler says. “Quite the opposite. You celebrate it and you embrace it in your artistic work.”
FKA twigs, known for her multidisciplinary brilliance, shares personal stories about her journey as an artist, the challenges she’s faced, and the community that sustains her creative process.
