This lively DLD24 session features a conversation between Almar Latour, CEO of Dow Jones and the Wall Street Journal, and Victor Riparbelli, CEO and co-founder of Synthesia, a company that uses AI to create realistic avatars for video content.
With the help of generative AI, Synthesia allows users to type a script and produce videos without the need for cameras, actors or studios, as Riparbelli explains.
Avatars are “something that Hollywood has been working on for many, many years”, Riparbelli notes. “But AI has enabled us to really democratize this and give this to any office worker at a big company who can make videos themselves.”
The Synthesia CEO predicts that the cost of producing video content will keep falling as AI reduces the need for physical equipment and personnel.
Watch the video to hear more about how AI is revolutionizing the media industry but is also creating problems, such as the mass production of deepfakes – and how hyper-realistic avatars could worsen the spread of misinformation online.
