Medically supervised fasting is a powerful, evidence-based intervention for metabolic health and longevity, with effects that can rival or complement pharmacological approaches, Victor Wilhelmi, Managing Director of Buchinger Wilhelmi Clinics, argues in his DLD Health presentation.
Wilhelmi describes the clinics – founded in 1920 with now 103 years of continuous medical practice and half a million patients – as “the biggest fasting laboratory in the world.” To prove what the clinics’ practitioners have long observed, the company built its own research department “with three fully dedicated scientists.”
One of them, Dr. Robin Mesnage, describes himself as a former skeptic turned advocate. “There is a clear consensus in science that fasting is really the most potent non-pharmacological thing that you could do for recovering metabolic health”, he says.
