Live sports remain central to younger audiences, but they consume them in vastly different ways, Yoran Henzler, Co-Founder of Entourage World, shows in his DLD Sports presentation.
Younger audiences “follow players and creators much more than they do teams”, he notes, adding that there are also “a lot more clips, a lot more consumption going on over phones, over laptops and a lot more short formats and social first formats.” Sports brands must become more culturally relevant to reach this generation, Henzler argues.
He also highlights the Icon League, a football competition involving amateur players, professional footballers, and influencers. Led by Toni Kroos and Twitch streamer Elias Nerlich, the league generated 18 million euros in its first full year and reached 2.1 million unique viewers per match day, Henzler says.
The success led Henzler and his co-founder to launch Entourage World, a pan-European sports media and entertainment platform. Its model combines exclusive access to high-profile talent and franchise ownership that gives participants a direct stake in their teams.
