Leadership in an era of radical change requires embracing uncertainty and moving beyond hierarchical structures towards a more fluid, ecosystem-based approach, Julian Stodd, author and founder of Sea Salt Learning, argues in his DLD Future Hub presentation.
“The social age sees a general rebalancing of power between the individual and the organization”, Stodd observes. Modern leadership, he argues, relies heavily on “permission and consensus” rather than direct authority.
The core challenge for contemporary leaders lies in operating “at the intersection of systems”, Stodd says. “Do we stand here on the hill and lead looking out? Or should we be in motion through the system to actively seek out these different voices in different communities?”
The advent of AI further increases the complexity, eroding established notions of artistry, truth, trust, identity, and belonging.
