Computer scientist Ehud Shapiro discusses his vision of an alternative architecture for the digital world – because right now, he says, the Internet resembles a feudal system where a few digital overlords have total control over billions of users.
“We have no civil rights”, Shapiro says. “And we’re basically being manipulated and exploited without remuneration.”
The fault does not lie so much with people as with technology itself, Shapiro – a highly respected researcher at the Weizmann Institute of Science – argues. “Computer science has not delivered the necessary foundations for different behavior.”
