Europe must reclaim its sovereignty by building resilient infrastructure, fostering homegrown innovation, and embracing bold entrepreneurship to safeguard its values and security, Herman Narula (Improbable) demands in his DLD26 talk.
“All of you will suffer from war in the next five years”, Narula warns, as he paints a picture of a world teetering on the brink of escalating military conflicts and vulnerabilities in energy and financial systems.
In Europe, “the first and most important issue we face is 90% of our technology infrastructure runs on foreign servers and is owned by foreign companies”, Narula says. Without urgent action in areas like energy, AI, and digital platforms, the continent risks losing both autonomy and security.
The only solution, Narula argues, is a push for entrepreneurship: from building defense-focused AI and decentralized social networks to rethinking venture capital as “an insurance cost” for Europe’s survival.
