This session shows how innovative startups and clever solutions can drive progress in the transition to a circular economy.
The panel discussion, moderated by Christian Teichmann (Burda Principal Investments), includes Axel Roenneke (OroraTech), David Dohmen (Ocell) and Aron Gelbard (Bloom & Wild).
Ocell and Orora Tech are helping forestry and utility companies modernize their practices, while Bloom & Wild is proving that sustainability is possible even in traditional industries.
Ocell uses AI and aerial imagery to provide forestry companies with better data and tools to manage forests sustainably, prevent issues like wildfires and bark beetles, and move towards more circular forest management.
Bloom & Wild, a flower delivery service, achieved carbon neutrality by redesigning their supply chain to reduce waste, using sea freight instead of air freight, and providing smaller packaging. The company hopes to increase its impact by sharing its learnings with others in the industry, as Gelbard explains.
Orora Tech use data from satellites, as well as AI, to help detect wildfires and also to simulate fires.
The goal is to identify risk areas for utility companies, and help plan fire response and restoration efforts. This technology could help prevent wildfires like the one that devastated parts of Hawaii in the summer of 2023.
