A new, high-adrenaline water sport is emerging: eFoiling, where athletes ride an electric-powered hydrofoil board, lifting above the water on a submerged wing and propelled by an electric motor.
In this exciting DLD Sports session, eFoil World Champion Justin Chait joins Jasmin Gaertner of EY and Markos Kern, founder of LYMB.io, to explore how these electronically powered boards redefine what is possible in water sports.
“eFoiling is the first sport I’ve ever done that you can literally do anywhere, anytime, anyplace”, Chait says. “You can get the rush of doing a 30-, 40-foot kite loop or surfing a double overhead wave on a lake. You can literally just take it out of your car, go to the water and just turn on the stoke levels.”
Together, Chait and Kern organized a 200-kilometer race along the Danube, requiring teams to manage batteries, checkpoints and locks while carrying 27-kilogram boards between sections. “It was like doing an ultra marathon but for water sports”, Chait says.
Could eFoiling become a major global sport? Absolutely, both speakers agree – even though the sport is still in its early stages.
