AI is not overhyped – it’s actually underappreciated, even now, argues Ulrike Hoffmann-Burchardi, CIO for Global Equities at the UBS Chief Investment Office, in her DLD Munich 2026 presentation.
She takes the stage to revisit ten AI predictions she made a year earlier and to deliver a verdict on which ones held up.
The scoreboard largely vindicates her. AI stocks outperformed the MSCI All Country World Index by 9% over the past twelve months, she notes, and AI capex — which skeptics called too high — surged 88% year-over-year, with UBS now forecasting $725 billion globally by 2027.
In her talk, peppered with charts, Hoffmann-Burchardi also predicts that “we will see the first one billion, one-person company” within the next three years and warns that “the biggest risk is missing the boat altogether.”
