Programming an MRI scanner used to take a human specialist and took many hours. Now, with the help of agentic AI systems, it can be done “at the cost of 12 cents and it takes 5 to 15 minutes”, Prof. Andreas Maier of the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität (FAU) in Erlangen explains.
The example is just one of many which illustrate the enormous impact of artificial intelligence in the field of health and medicine.
In this DLD Health talk, Maier explores details of this develeopment – such as the shift from deep learning systems that recognize speech, images, and patterns to agentic AI systems that can actively experiment, correct themselves and deliver working solutions.
Mayer also illustrates how AI is accelerating research and software development far beyond imaging: reproducing papers, analyzing tens of thousands of publications, preparing open-access proceedings, benchmarking CT reconstruction methods, and building university chatbot systems in days or even hours.
