For the first time in history, “having health is an active choice”, Andrew McCarthy, Founder and CEO of Axo Longevity, argues in his DLD Health talk. He urges the audience to shift “from passive patient to active participant.” by measuring what is happening inside their bodies rather than relying on how they feel.
McCarthy calls the “gap between feeling healthy and being healthy” one of the most dangerous things today, noting that 75% of deaths come from chronic disease and that healthcare “is reactive by design”. 80% of premature heart disease, stroke, and type 2 diabetes could be avoided, he says, by fostering a shift to preventive action.
Technology and modern medicine make this an exciting possibility, he argues. “You are able to get these deep blood panel tests, more than 100 biomarkers, full body MRIs, continuous glucose monitoring, and other wearables”, McCarthy says. “The human body right now is the most instrumented it has ever been.”
