DeepL is redefining how businesses and individuals use language AI to break down communication barriers globally. In his DLD Future Hub presentation, the company’s Chief Scientist, Stefan Mesken, reflects on the DeepL’s rapid rise from a small startup in Cologne to a global leader in machine translation.
Founded in 2017, DeepL is now serving over 200,000 businesses and governments in 228 markets, Mesken says, “and to this day, we remain the class-leading provider of Language AI.”
Combining cutting-edge research with practical tools tailored for business needs is key to the company’s success, Mesken explains. This includes features like document translation and glossaries, which allow users to customize translations for specific industries or contexts.
“Language is rich”, Mesken says, and “AI is the solution.” Grammar, context, and nuance must be accounted for in ways traditional tools never could. Recent advancements, such as the ISO-certified DeepL Voice, expand this vision into live speech translation, enabling real-time multilingual conversations.
