The newly appointed Minister for Digital Affairs in Bavaria, Fabian Mehring, discusses his goal of making Bavaria a leader in artificial intelligence by building up a vibrant innovation ecosystem around data, algorithms and cloud computing.
“It is my firm belief that Bavaria’s future and prosperity lies in embracing exactly this technological swift that we all see happening right now”, Mehring says. “It’s AI, powered by huge amounts of data, and the fastest computing power available in the cloud that will lead to success.”
Bavaria is already a high-tech hub in Germany, he notes, and the state is investing heavily in R&D, science and expanding its innovation ecosystem.
“We are putting our money where our future is”, Mehring says. “We have started the Franconia University of Artificial Intelligence, which will include AI in subjects from physics up to philosophy. We have created the Munich Institute of Robotics and Machine Intelligence to help solve the great challenges of our time, from climate change to health, to mobility.”
